Studio Rex is the comfy art zone of Roger Evers, mask maker, painter, sculptor, writer, assembler of oddities, star counter, dreamer and grower of vegetables. I am into my 57rd orbit (2006) and the batteries still seem to have some life in them. My early artistic trends started with food art from my high chair. I was especially enthralled with "creamed spinach green" and "pureed squash yellow": sadly, none of these early works survive, as all the walls and floors were dutifully cleaned by the parentals. Got around to writing poetry in high school, after discovering that skinny guys were not made to play high school football (got my bell rung and hung up my cleets). Was a tried and true "tune in, turn on and drop out" late 60's S.F. bay area hipster artist. Moved into the magic mountains of the coast range and proceeded to create and be created. Early mask making began in earnest. Did a bunch of stuff after those "formative years", including running a small painting contracting business. Made more masks, painted large canvasses in oils and acrylics and explored the edges of the literary realms with the amazing poet/painter Sam Brevard (aka John C. Morrison).
So here I am, an artist to the bone. I lobby humanity on behalf of the great gift of imagination, striking blows against the scourge of religious, political and hypocritical moral dogmas through the amazing gift of creativity. Basically, trying my damndest to make the most of the time I've got to further the cause of evolving consciousness through the powers and magic of art. Frankly, I'm not much good for anything else (although I do grow some mean asparagus!)...
May the muse be with you always!
